Thermo Fisher Scientific to Showcase its Versatile Polymer Portfolio at K 2010

DÜSSELDORF, Germany, (October 27, 2010) – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, will showcase its versatile polymer and plastics portfolio at the K show in Hall 10, booth B59. K show, the world’s largest trade fair for the plastics and rubber industry, takes place in Düsseldorf, Germany, from Oct. 27 – Nov. 3, 2010, and it provides a platform for the company to present its broad portfolio to the international community. Thermo Fisher will present solutions for polymer research, testing, monitoring and small-scale production.

New at the show from the portfolio of web gauging products is the Thermo Scientific IPlus!, a robust and reliable total basis weight or thickness measurement and control system. The IPlus! offers increased product uniformity, quality, raw material savings and improved line utilization. The easy-to-use system is suitable for a range of applications such as cast film extrusion, sheet extrusion, vinyl calendaring and extrusion coating. And it offers value-added features to achieve optimal production quality and maintain production target.

Thermo Fisher Scientific invites visitors to experience its broad portfolio of measuring mixers and extruders that helps customers simulating their polymer production processes. New to visitors will be the Thermo Scientific HAAKE MiniCTW, the latest model in a suite of micro-conical twin-screw compounders. The HAAKE MiniCTW is ideal for the precisely controlled reactive extrusion of high-viscous melts in the polymer, bioscience, nanotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Features and benefits of the new micro-conical twin-screw compounder include:

• Only seven ml of material for compounding is needed
• Removable top barrel for easy and quick cleaning
• New software for user-friendly process monitoring
• Various models serving a breadth of applications (from polymers to pharmaceuticals)

Visitors to the booth will also be introduced to the broad rheology portfolio that is not only meeting standards needs in quality control or research and development, but also supporting individual requirements. Among others, the company will present new temperature control modules for the universal Thermo Scientific HAAKE RheoStress 6000 rheometer, and it will also introduce the simultaneous combination of FTIR-spectroscopy with rheological measurements with the new patented Rheonaut technology.
