Teknor Apex: Medical grade elastomers for tubing applications

The thermoplastic elastomer division of Teknor Apex (Pawtucket, Rhode Island / USA; www.teknorapex.com) has introduced a range of medical grade elastomers that the company claims will provide a practical alternative to PVC in many tubing applications. The "Medalist” MD-500 series offers high clarity and mechanical properties comparable to those of PVC and provides similar clamp resilience and resistance to kinking and necking.

Teknor Apex says that the compounds have a PVC-like "feel” but are more flexible and less dense. They also show minimal colour shift on heat aging after exposure to gamma irradiation in sterilisation.
