TPE resin prices June 17-21: PE steady, PP up $0.01/lb; PP flirts with $0.80/lb

Spot resin trading slowed after robust activity during the first half of June, with lighter offers and steady-to-higher prices. Polyethylene contracts have yet to settle, and producers are taking a third crack at their $0.04/lb price increase, according to spot-trading platform, The Plastics Exchange. TPE CEO Michael Greenberg noted that processors are still searching for price relief, adding, "We may very well see the market flat again." Polypropylene contracts added $0.03/lb in June while spot prices jumped $0.05/lb, including a penny last week amid very tight supplies. North American spot resin prices for PE and PP are now generally priced too high to enable large-volume exports.
