TPE resin prices, July 15-19: PE mixed; PP drops for the first time in nearly three months

The spot resin markets saw moderate trading activity as commodity grade prices were mixed but mostly lower, according to plastics spot-trading platform, The Plastics Exchange. "Summer demand is not quite as hot as the weather," commented TPE CEO Michael Greenberg. Polyethylene buyers are disappointed at the lack of price relief as contract prices remain at the year's highest levels despite a considerable break in ethylene monomer. Spot polypropylene buyers are faced with limited and expensive sourcing opportunities, while contract PP buyers, mostly tied to contract polymer grade propylene (PGP), are cost advantaged.
