Sustainable packaging developer Stanelco (Southampton / UK; www.stanelco.co.uk) has re-branded its bioplastics division Biome Bioplastics Ltd. The change comes in response to the high levels of growth being achieved in the division through the development of new technologies. The latest material development from the new company is "BiomeHT, which has a higher temperature capability than many bioplastics. Its softening point is greater than 90 °C, and it displays improved mechanical properties compared with previous materials, resulting in stiff and strong mouldings.
The HT material range is produced from 80-95% renewable resources. Potential applications include cutlery and plates for hot food, thermoformed cups and lids, and electronics casings exposed to heat.
