Western European producers of standard thermoplastics rarely managed to achieve targeted hikes in December, says the newsletter Plastics Information Europe (PIE, Bad Homburg / Germany; www.pieweb.com). Most polyolefin buyers accepted at most a small increase, regarding the rise of EUR 7/t and EUR 10/t in C2 and C3 contracts respectively as insufficient reason to pay more. A saturated market forced PVC prices down. PS players passed on the EUR 35/t increase for SM, with EPS makers succeeding only in the packaging segment. PET rose EUR 45/t on higher feedstocks.
Availability is tight, and increases likely in January, says PIE.
