After frantically scrambling to lift notations in January, western European producers of standard thermoplastics continued their efforts in February, the newsletter Plastics Information Europe (PIE, Bad Homburg / Germany; www.pieweb.com) says in its current price report. Polyolefin producers secured rises of EUR 70-100/t, while PVC suppliers, still dogged by poor margins, netted an increase only sufficient to cover the higher cost of C2. Despite improving margins, PS producers volume sales remained low. EPS rolled over, as the building industry remained in the deep freeze.
As supplies tighten, prices of standard thermoplastics in Europe are likely to continue rising in March, says PIE.
