Specialty modifier targets auto market


A maleic anhydride-grafted polyolefin elastomer product supplied by Japan's Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Tokyo) will be produced in Singapore starting October 2013. The specialty Tafmer grade will target impact modification in glass-reinforced grades of nylon increasingly being used in lightweight vehicles.

The 8,000-tonnes/yr specialty Tafmer plant will be installed downstream of one of the two 100,000-tonne/yr lines that affiliate Mitsui Elastomers Singapore (MELS) operates at the Jurong Island site. Including warehouse and logistics facilities, Mitsui is making an investment of around 2.5 billion yen ($32 million)....
