SAUDI ARABIA: Saudi Ethylene Capacity to Surpass 16.5-million t/y by 2015, Predicts BMI

Polyethylene capacity is projected to expand to 8.86-million t/y, an increase of 20% when compared to 2010, while polypropylene capacity will increase 11%. Capacities for polystyrene, polyethylene terephthalate and polyvinyl chloride are not expected to change. The projections are based on planned projects, but BMI notes that some may not be carried out due to restrictions on ethane feedstock and a possible lackluster recovery in the Chinese market.(Syed Rashid Ali, Karachi, Pakistan)
