Reaction to Paul Sturgeon's Talent Talk column last week was almost entirely one-sided. Paul wrote an account of an employee at a plastics processor who was offered a better-paying position elsewhere, accepted it, and tendered his resignation at his current employer.
The next day the current employer responded with a monetarily superior counter-offer and the potential for a bonus based on the success of a new project that the person was being asked to run. Suddenly the current workplace looked much more attractive.
Is the person being disloyal to his potential new employer if he accepts the counter-offer? Will he just be fired soon now that his employer knows he is eyeing other jobs?
