Ras Laffan: New world-scale petchems complex

Qatar Petroleum (QP, Doha / Qatar; www.qp.com.qa) and ExxonMobil Chemical Qatar, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil (Houston, Texas / USA; www.exxonmobil.com), are cooperating on a world-scale petrochemical complex at Ras Laffan Industrial City. The project, proposed to start up in Q4 2014, will include the world's largest steam cracker, with a capacity of 1.6m t/y, as well as two 650,000 t/y PE plants and a 700,000 t/y ethylene glycol unit.

Feedstock will come from gas development projects in Qatar's North Field, and output will go for the most part to the growing Asian market.
