QATAR: Tecnimont awarded FEED contract for Al-Sejeel petrochemical complex

The project includes a mixed feed steam cracker to produce 1.4-million t/y of ethylene and units to produce 1,590,000 t/y of polyethylene, 760,000 t/y of polypropylene and 83,000 t/y of butadiene.

Completion is scheduled for 2018.

"It is the vision of our leadership to harness the tremendous potential of the petrochemical sector, and embark on a large-scale expansion of our downstream industry," said Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, Qatar's Minister of Energy and Industry. "To this end, we aim to raise our petrochemical output to 23-million t/y by 2020."

Technology licensing agreements were recently signed with Univation Technologies and Dow Chemical.
