QATAR: Second phase of Pearl GTL to go on stream by mid-2012

"We are now working with QP on the second phase of the project,” chief executive officer Peter Voser told reporters in Doha 21 Nov."The start-up of phase one got on very well and now the products are being exported to many parts of the globe,” Voser said. The formal inauguration of Pearl GTL will be held in Ras Laffan this morning (22 Nov.).The integrated gas-to-liquids project being developed by Qatar and Shell under a development and production sharing agreement (DPSA) will produce 140,000 barrels of products each day.The state-of-the-art plant will also produce 120,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day of natural gas liquids and ethane."In partnership with and with the support of Qatar Petroleum, we built the largest project not only in Qatar but also in Shell portfolio. We have never built a single project as big as this one,” Voser said."It is quite remarkable that the largest project ever built in our industry has had more than 52,000 people working on it in a very safe and focused way. This shows how petrochemical, oil and gas projects can be safely and reliably developed in Qatar,” Voser said. The Shell CEO said the technology used by Pearl GTL is "very unique, with very advanced final products.”
"We are very pleased and honoured to have the world-scale unique project getting inaugurated in Ras Laffan on Tuesday (22 Nov.),” Voser said. The proprietary Shell Middle Distillate Synthesis (SMDS) process will be at the heart of the two-train Pearl GTL plant, Shell said on its website. The plant will produce ‘cleaner-burning' diesel and aviation fuel, oils for advanced lubricants, naphtha used to make plastics and paraffin for detergents.Source: Daily "Gulf Times", Doha; 22 Nov 2011(Syed Rashid Ali, Karachi, Pakistan)
