QATAR: Qapco Awards CTCI Two Contracts For Mesaieed Ethylene Upgrades

In the first phase, the objective is to modify, revamp and replace some technical equipment to meet international safety and environmental standards. In the second phase, which is still being studied and requires board of directors' approval, Qapco plans to increase ethylene capacity to between 950,000 t/y and 1-million t/y. Last year, Qapco awarded Shaw a basic engineering services contract for a project that will provide the design needed for expanding its existing 720,000-t/y Mesaieed ethylene plant "by up to 25%”.(Syed Rashid Ali, Karachi, Pakistan)
