QATAR: Bechtel to provide project management for QP and Qapco's Al Sejeel Complex

The Al Sejeel complex, owned 80% by QP and 20% by Qapco, includes a cracker that will use feedstock from natural gas projects in Qatar to produce 1.4-million t/y of ethylene, as well as downstream units for the production of 850,000 t/y of high-density polyethylene, 430,000 t/y of linear low-density polyethylene, 760,000 t/y of polypropylene and 83,000 t/y of butadiene. Bechtel said its services will begin with the front-end engineering design phase to ensure the quality, safe and timely construction of the project, which is scheduled to be operational in 2018."Bechtel's contribution to the mega-petrochemical complex will be strategic, as Bechtel benefits from extensive experience and is a leader in the construction of petrochemical plants all around the world,” noted Mohammed Yousef Al-Mulla, vice chairman and chief executive of Qapco. (Syed Rashid Ali, Karachi, Pakistan)
