Purac: New 75,000 t/y lactide plant in Thailand

In a step towards realising its goal of becoming a leading player in the bioplastics market, CSM (Diemen / The Netherlands; www.csm.nl) has announced that its subsidiary, Purac (Gorinchem / The Netherlands; www.purac.com), will build a lactide plant in Map ta Phut / Thailand. Purac will invest EUR 45m into the new facility with a planned capacity of 75,000 t/y.


The company has been producing 100,000 t/y of lactic acid in Map ta Phut since mid-2008; the new line, aimed at producing lactic acid based bioplastics with a heat resistance of up to 180 °C, is expected to go on stream in the second half of 2011.
