Pup Peeves uses TPE for new line of serving containers for dogs

[image_0]Produced by Covington Plastic Molding, New Oxford, PA, USA, the "Happy Lapper" is a patent-pending serving container for frozen canine treats. The PolyOne material delivers a combination of stability and grip to prevent the device from tipping over or sliding across the floor as a pet consumes the contents. Scott Covington, vice president and co-founder of Covington Plastic Molding said: "We are a small, custom molder specializing in small to medium runs and hard-to-mold parts. It's very rewarding for us to work with PolyOne GLS because we get personalized service even though this is a niche application. The company goes above and beyond to meet our needs and provide expertise regarding unusual parts like the Happy Lapper.” Covington recommended PolyOne GLS materials when Linda Haverstock, founder of Pup Peeves, brought in the first prototype. "We have worked with PolyOne for years with great results, and I recognized that a GLS TPE could meet Linda's requirements much better than a urethane rubber,” he explained. The checklist of requirements included FDA compliance for safety, excellent aesthetics and ability to be washed in an automatic dishwasher. After Covington and the PolyOne team selected the material, they worked closely to identify the right durometer. PolyOne provided samples in 60, 70 and 80 Shore A for Covington to test, and offered suggestions on Covington's design. Ultimately, a 60 Shore A durometer was chosen to provide sufficient softness to grip wood, tile or linoleum flooring as well as sufficient stability to firmly support the frozen pet treat. The Happy Lapper is currently produced in two colors. According to Rick Noller, director of marketing, PolyOne GLS Thermoplastic Elastomers, "This is a great success story that resulted from close collaboration between our team and Covington to find the best solution for the end customer. Our TPEs are versatile, practical and durable - a perfect combination for a product that is going to be well-loved by dogs and pet owners everywhere.”
