FISCHBACH, Luxembourg – June 6, 2013 – PolyOne Corporation (NYSE: POL), a premier global provider of specialized polymer materials, services and solutions, today announced it has signed a cooperation agreement with Matériautech®, a leading independent association dedicated to plastics design and innovation. This alliance will help industrial designers, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and plastics processors in Europe to accelerate development and time-to-market for ground-breaking new products.
Holger Kronimus, vice president Europe and general manager, Specialty Engineered Materials Europe, at PolyOne, and Gilles Gauthier, design and innovation manager at Matériautech®, announced the agreement. “Working together with Matériautech will help PolyOne to empower our customers’ designers, engineers and brand owners to evaluate a wide variety of polymer solutions early in the design cycle,” commented Kronimus. “Customers will have quick access to samples of multiple solutions at the earliest stages of design, when the greatest opportunities for differentiation occur.”
As part of the cooperation, PolyOne will supply Matériautech® (Lyon, France) with its specialty engineered materials, which the engineers at Matériautech® will use to create their distinctive GEM® samples. A focus will be on the many formulations from PolyOne that can be used to replace metal. To further emphasize this focus, PolyOne and Matériautech® organized a customer day on metal replacement that will take place on June 26 at Matériautech® headquarters in Lyon.
The unique GEM® samples are designed with thin and thick sections, both smooth and corrugated, to highlight the behavior of a polymer during the transformation process. On display at Matériautech® centers throughout France and Italy, the GEM® provides industrial designers and plastics professionals a means to discover various polymers visually and tangibly as they select materials for new projects.
With eight facilities in France and Italy, Matériautech® is part of France’s Allize-Plasturgie, a prominent organization in the French plastics industry, representing more than 800 plastics processors. In its role as a significant European source of information on plastics, Matériautech® assists more than 600 companies annually in their search for the optimal material. It has also developed proprietary GEM® samples that enable members to examine over 500 available materials to help guide their choice.
“Our mission is to facilitate an active exchange between designers looking for information, and manufacturers offering innovative products. We are very pleased to be able now to promote PolyOne’s specialty engineered materials to our member companies,” commented Gauthier.
“We anticipate this cooperation with Matériautech will further help to foster and accelerate innovation for designers, brand owners, OEMs and processors in the European plastics industry, who rely on our specialty engineered polymer formulations to help them differentiate their products and gain competitive advantage,” added Kronimus.
Headquartered in Lyon, France, the Matériautech® organization is dedicated to speeding innovation for plastics manufacturers, designers, processors, consultants, and others curious about plastics. It facilitates the exchange of information and ideas between designers and suppliers of innovative polymer solutions. For more information, visit www.materiautech.org.
