Plastics supplier puts muscle behind new lab focused 100% on plastics in photovoltaics

Plastics' use in solar energy applications is taking off as is processors' own use of solar arrays to help trim their power bills. Now, one of the world's leading plastics suppliers, Arkema, has teamed with experts from France's Institut National de l'Energie Solaire to create the first private/public mixed research laboratory dedicated to the development of polymer materials for photovoltaic technologies.

Arkema has been active in this market since 2001, focused on development of plastics that would help extend the lifetime of solar panels and make their manufacture quicker and cheaper. The supplier hopes that the partnership with the researchers from INES at its site near Chambéry, France, will help energize their efforts in the market....
