Plastics micro technology and multi component technology at it’s best

The Kunststoff-Zentrum in Leipzig (KuZ) - an institute for plastics technology, testing and advanced vocational training - exhibits at the international trade fair ‘K 2010’ in Düsseldorf. The KuZ celebrates this year its 50th anniversary. Themed "KuZ – Your partner for plastics technology", visitors and guests have the chance to become aquainted with its new developments.

Added value is generated by a new production unit for a micro optical element group. The production unit based on a modularly composed 2K micro injection moulding machine integrates handling, assembling as well as in-line measuring and testing methods. Such complex parts can widely be applied to areas in optoelectronics, medical technology, telecommunications and measurement technology. The production unit was developed by KuZ together with partners and will be presented at the stand of KuZ neighbouring to the DesmaTec stand.

Added components can be processed by the new technology platform, where injection moulding of thermoplastics and polyurethane processing (the reaction technology) were brought together. This new technology was installed at KuZ in the middle of 2010. The research objective is to make new potential accessible for the users of this multi component technology. Particularly, this new technology is interesting for automotive engineering with its high requirements for the vehicle interior including haptic and scratch-resistant lacquer coatings. Furthermore, solutions concerning functional integration (e. g. electrical circuitry) and other optical-esthetic aspects are work in progress.

Added efficiency can be achieved by a combination of roto moulding and reaction injection molding technologies, where each single technology belongs to polyurethane processing. This combination allows an automated manufacturing of high-quality polyurethane parts with no parting line within the functional and visible area. The removal of suspicious flashed is no longer required. This technology can be applied to the manufacturing of first-surface-class and exclusive parts for automotive engineering, medical technology, orthopedics, and designer products.
