Plastic closure processor Portola announced its pending acquisition of fellow closure molder and neighbor Integra-Seal Industries LLC for an undisclosed amount. The sale is expected to close by the end of this month. The purchase gives Portola additional means to market closures to small- to medium-sized dairies and water bottlers.
Portola Packaging is based in Naperville, IL, and Integra-Seal calls Kingsport, TN home. Portola has an existing 90,000-ft2 Kingsport facility where it molds tamper-evident closures and employs 110 people.
Twelve-year old Integra-Seal injection molds low-density polyethylene (LDPE) tamper-evident closures, with its "claim to fame" its 38-mm Integra-Lock snap-on tamper-evident closure. According to Integra-Seal, the tooling it designed to mold these closures creates a redesigned flange that improves tamper-evidence and gives a closure a smoother appearance.
