Plastics and chemicals production, sales data suggest slow second half for 2012

U.S. production of major plastic resins through the first 6 months of 2012 was unchanged compared to the same time period in 2011 at 37.3 billion lb. According to statistics released this month by the American Chemistry Council (ACC), production of major plastic resins totaled 6.1 billion lb during June 2012, a decrease of 0.8%.

Sales and captive (internal) use of major plastic resins were down more substantially, however, totaling 6.7 billion lb during June 2012, which was 11.1% lower than the same month one year earlier. Year-to-date sales and captive use was slightly higher, however, at 37.2 billion lb, up 1.1% as compared to the same period in 2011....
