PlasticsEurope celebrates its 10th Anniversary

PlasticsEurope celebrated the 10th anniversary of its creation on 22nd January in Brussels with more than 150 guests including leading representatives from the world of politics, business, science, media along with PlasticsEurope's members and employees.

"Founded in 1976 as the Association of Plastics Manufacturers in Europe (APME), our organisation took a turn in 2005 when it became PlasticsEurope. Since then, it has established itself as one of the leading pan-European associations representing almost all plastics manufacturers in Europe”, said Patrick Thomas, President of PlasticsEurope and CEO of Bayer MaterialScience.

Today, the European plastics industry makes a significant contribution to the welfare in Europe by enabling innovation and facilitating resource efficiency and climate protection. It provides more than 1.45 million jobs in about 60,000 companies with a turnover excess of 320bn EUR per year.

"The European plastics industry will remain a strong player in Europe's economy being a strategic sector for the creation of jobs and growth in Europe. Ensuring its competitiveness is in the interest of the whole of Europe's economy”, said Gwenole Cozigou, Director, Directorate Resources Based, Manufacturing and Consumer Goods Industries at the European Commission in his opening speech.

"We will continue to provide accurate information in policy matters while communicating on the contribution of plastics to sustainable development, innovation and the quality of life”, stated Karl-H. Foerster, Executive Director of PlasticsEurope.

PlasticsEurope, with offices in Brussels, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Milan and Paris, networks with European and national plastics associations across EU28 Members States as well as Norway, Switzerland and Turkey.
