Petrochina Lanzhou: Serious fire at petrochemical plant

Following an explosion at a naphtha oil tank farm, a massive blaze ripped through the Lanzhou Petrochemical Company, located near Lanzhou City in Gansu / China. A preliminary company estimate says the fire resulted from a C4 ignition caused by static electricity.

Reports indicate that several people were killed or wounded, although how many exactly remains unclear. Whereas holding company China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC, Beijing / China; www.cnpc.com.cn) puts the number at five missing and six injured, other Chinese sources speak of between two to five casualties, several wounded and several missing.
