OMAN: Orpic meets with potential contractors for briefing on Liwa plastics project
Participating companies are considered "potentially capable of carrying out works relating to one of the project's engineering, procurement and construction work packages, said Orpic, adding that the companies have expressed interest in participating in the tender.
The pre-qualification tender is scheduled to be floated in "the following weeks.
The purpose of the workshop was to outline to potential bidders the details regarding the implementation of Liwa, its status, objectives, timeline, project participants, financing and sponsors, along with Orpic's growth strategy.
"It made sense for us to brief this group of potential prequalifiers at this stage, noted Henk Pauw, general manager of the project. "We need to ensure that they have a complete picture of what Liwa Plastics Project represents as early as possible in the process."
The project, to be located adjacent to the Sohar refinery, will include a nominal 900,000-t/y ethylene cracker, a 420,000-t/y high-density polyethylene plant, a 420,000-t/y linear low-density polyethylene facility and a 215,000 polypropylene plant, as well as methyl tertiary butyl ether and butene-1 units, for which capacities were not available.
