OMAN: Orpic CEO provides additional details on planned cracker

Orpic plans to conduct a study for the proposed project, which "will cost in the region of $3-billion to $4-billion” and will "have the capacity to produce approximately 1-million t/y of PP and PE.” He did not give a capacity for the steam cracker.

The project is expected to come on stream about two years after the expansion of Orpic's Sohar refinery and construction of a 280-km pipeline between Sohar and the Mina Al Fahal refinery in Muscat are completed.

"The engineering work of the pipeline . . . is in progress and we expect construction to start next year,” he noted. "As for the Sohar refinery, the upgrade will raise current production by 70% and we expect both projects to be completed in 2016.”
