New thermally conductive plastics and processing aids for barrier materials

Thanks to the customised properties of the materials, the lamps achieve a higher performance and service life, while the good processing characteristics permit freedom in design and allow cost savings compared with other materials such as metals and ceramics, says the company. The new materials complement LuV's range of thermally conductive Luvocom compounds.
Furthermore, the company has launched two new products which simplify and optimise the processing of the barrier materials polyamide and EVOH.Luvobatch PA PPA 9659 is based on a highly viscous PA 6 carrier and as a result is suitable for numerous polyamides. Luvobatch EVOH PPA 5157 is based on an EVOH with 32 mol% ethylene content and is suitable for use in all standard EVOH qualities with ethylene contents of 29 mol% up to 44 mol%. According to the company, initial trials with reputable film, sheet, and tube manufacturers showed the desired effects and as a result a noticeable product and/or process optimisation was possible for these customers.This in turn led to a boost in productivity of the products concerned and consequently to cost reductions, says LuV. Apart from the already described positive effects of processing aids, Luvobatch EVOH PPA 5157 allows for greatly improved mechanical operation of the spiral mandrel die, which in turn permits thinner EVOH layers without defects, leading to further cost reduction.
