Developing a mold design check List and posting it on the company’s website at first seemed like a “silly” idea, explains Eric Fehrman, general manager of Fehrman Tool & Die Inc. (Byesville, OH). “We put out this check list to help our customers manage their tools and to try to educate the customer in ways that can help them get the mold they really want,” he says.
There are many mold engineers or mold purchasers in the industry that have never bought molds domestically, Fehrman notes. “Many have always sourced tools offshore, so there are many things about the phases of the mold design they don’t know,” he says. “The things that we take for granted, they’ve never heard of.”...
