NPE2012: Kraiburg TPE presents new polar alloys and OBC blends for consumer electronics
The OBC blends are said to offer strong mechanicals, good flow properties, skin oil resistance, and enhanced bond strength to glass-filled nylon substrates. They also provide good haptics resulting in silky, non sticky surface along with good oil and chemical resistance and very good bonding to engineered plastics such as ABS and PC. The blends (60-80 Shore A) also offer very good resistance to sebum,, olive oil, sunscreen lotion, and other aggressive oils. All compounds are said to exhibit good flow properties which result in improved extrusion capabilities along with good colorability. Dr. Markus Beitzel, Director of Product Development at Kraiburg TPE comments: "The development of these specialty TPEs has been driven by OEMs who demand soft and elastic TPEs with increased media resistance and innovative surface finish. The polar alloys offer good mechanical properties at lower durometers starting at 50 Shore A, compared to TPU materials, as well as improved haptics providing a silky, non/stick surface. They also have good oil and chemical resistance and show good bonding to ABS, PC, and PC blend substrates. Viscosity can be adjusted according to customer demands. The new compound has been specifically designed for cable extrusion, especially for consumer electronics for headsets, where skin oil resistance and smooth surface finish are required key properties.
