As far back as I can remember since I’ve been in this industry (which is now 30 years), the SPI moldmakers and machinery makers have met together each spring. Many times the meeting was here in Phoenix, which made it convenient for me to attend after I’d begun writing about tooling and molding rather than selling it.
It always made sense to me that these two groups should have a tight alliance because they need each other. The mold after all, is the heart of the machine. And the molding machine – how it is designed and built, the ‘body’ into which the ‘heart’ goes – is critical to the ability of the mold to run as it is supposed to. Both are “machines” that work together to produce the myriad products the world uses and enjoys....
