Michelin to provide airless radial tyre for John Deere Ztrak 900 series line-up

[image_0]Available on the 54, 60 and 72 inch deck sizes, the airless radial tyre eliminates downtime and is maintenance free, says the manufacturer. Originally introduced as a concept in 2005, the Tweel is a non-pneumatic tyre that changed the configuration of a conventional tyre, bringing together the tyre and the wheel assembly into one solid unit. The Tweel comprises a rigid hub connected to a shear beam by means of flexible, deformable polyurethane spokes, all functioning as a single unit. Unlike conventional tyres, the Tweel has no air, thereby solving what had seemed to be the challenge of flat tyres in the landscape, construction, contracting, refuse/recycling, and agricultural industries. Using automotive rubber technology, the tread of the new Michelin X Tweel Turf is said to last up to three times longer than standard turf tyres. The multi-directional tread pattern is optimised for hillside stability and helps prevent turf damage. On 20 November 2014, Michelin opened its newest plant in North America, which will produce the Michelin X Tweel for commercial applications. The plant in Piedmont, SC, USA, gives the company the ability to begin production of the Michelin X Tweel Turf as original equipment for John Deere and boost output of the Michelin X Tweel SSL skid-steer tyres.
