Major new automotive carbon-composite production part is close

Plasan Carbon Composites (Wixom, MI) has signed a development contract for a major carbon composite part for a 2016 model year car. "It will shock people when they find out the part and the OEM," said Gary Lownsdale, technical director of PCC in an interview with PlasticsToday. "It's not an OEM people would expect."

The order would fill out Plasan's brand new manufacturing plant in Walker, MI, which is now ramping up to full production for a hood in the 2014 Corvette Stingray. PCC, which is owned by an Israeli kibbutz and Japanese powerhouse Toray, tooled the plant for a run of up to 30,000 parts per year for the Stingray.
