MALAYSIA: Top Glove to raise glove prices by 3%-5% to offset minimum wage policy

The policy, which took effect on 1 Jan 2013, is likely to cause the glove producer's labour cost to increase by some 50%, its chairman Tan Sri Lim Wee Chai said. "We have already informed our customers about the price increase," he told a briefing in Petaling Jaya on 8 Jan. 2013.Currently, its factory workers are paid some RM1,200 inclusive of overtime. With the implementation of the new wage policy which sets the minimum wage at RM900 for Peninsular Malaysia, their salaries will increase up to RM1,800 per worker, said Lim.(Syed Rashid Ali, Karachi, Pakistan)
