MALAYSIA: Kuala Lumpur imposes anti-dumping duties on PET, BOPP from certain markets

The duty on PET from Thailand will increase to 49.25% from zero for the period from 21 Apr. 2011 through 20 Apr. 2016. For BOPP imported from China, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, a permanent anti-dumping duty of up to 12.37% will apply from 24 Apr. 2013 to 22 Apr. 2018. In addition, a temporary 21.43% duty on BOPP from the four countries, as well as Indonesia, has been levied for the 24 Dec. 2012 to 22 Apr. 2013 period. However, noted Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan, "if checks show that there is no dumping, then we will refund the (temporary) duty collected from the foreign companies.”
