Lubrizol targets long-term implants at MD&M West


One of the newsmakers at MD&M West (Anaheim, CA, Feb. 12-14) will be Lubrizol Corp. (Wickliffe, OH), which is introducing eight new aromatic plastics for long-term medical implants.

The new materials are an extension of the Carbothane line of polycarbonate-based thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) and include a range of grades and radiopacities.

According to Lubrizol, aromatic Carbothane TPU features stronger material, improved chemical resistance and increased resistance to creep compared to other plastics used for comparable medical applications, such as catheters and other devices used in the body for more than 30 days.
