Linear Mold & Engineering (Livonia, MI), a mold manufacturing and engineering firm that has developed expertise in 3D metal printing, announced the completion of its planned Q1 2015 equipment additions: Three SLM 280 HL Twin Beam 3D metal printing machines are now installed. The company plans to install six more 3D metal printing machines during 2015 to keep up with customer demand. That brings the total number of SLM machines from SLM Solutions to six machines, and a grand total of all SLM and DMLS machines to 14, as Linear expands capacity to keep up with demand for prototypes and production and end-use parts for its customers in the automotive, aerospace and energy industries. The company also designs and builds conformal cooling channels for injection molds using 3D metal printing processes for the mold manufacturing market.
Linear will share its knowledge about this technology at RAPID 2015 in a special workshop on Monday, May 18, 2015, from 9 AM to 2 PM at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, CA. Linear will be exhibiting at booth 1138.
Lou Young, Director, will speak on Additive Manufacturing with Metals and Its Impact on Plastic Injection Molding. The workshop will provide an introduction to the 3D metal printing process and explain how it is affecting the plastic injection molding industry. Young will discuss terminology, provide real-world examples and use case studies to help participants better understand the significance of 3D metal printing for the plastics industry.
