Linear Mold & Engineering ‘builds’ DMLS inserts for conformal cooling

As an early adopter of Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS), Linear Mold & Engineering has developed a specialty niche building conformal cooling lines to complement its mold manufacturing business. Increasing demand from Linear’s OEM customers, including Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers, for reduced cycle times and better quality components, while controlling costs to manufacture, has given Linear the opportunity to expand its DMLS business.

Linear (; Lavonia, MI) continues increasing its DMLS capacity to provide customer solutions. The company recently added DMLS capacity that now totals four EOS M260 machines to help meet demand. “We have developed an expertise in the design and build of tooling inserts with conformal cooling channels for other mold shops as well as OEMs, and that business is growing dramatically,” commented John Tenbusch, president of Linear Mold & Engineering. “Along with the request for cycle time reduction, there is a tremendous need for control of dimensional stability in complex part designs. Innovative tooling solutions are our focus.”...
