KraussMaffei is welcoming visitors to its in-house show, the KraussMaffei Competence Forum, on May 19, 2011. The motto for this year´s event is "Technology³ - Machinery, Processes, Service" and the company will be showcasing the high-caliber product portfolio from its technology divisions - Injection Molding Machinery, Reaction Process Machinery and Extrusion Technology - marketed under the KraussMaffei and KraussMaffei Berstorff brands. KraussMaffei will also be celebrating the opening of a new TechCenter. Operated jointly by the company´s Injection Molding and Reaction Process Machinery divisions, the new facility underlines the company´s capacity to develop successful multiprocess system solutions. Another high point for many visitors will be a panel discussion on applications for lightweight composites.
30 KraussMaffei machine exhibits underline technology competence - 30 partner exhibitors
"At the center of the KraussMaffei Competence Forum and in line with our motto ´Technology³ - Machinery, Processes, Service´ are over 30 machine exhibits representing our high-caliber machine portfolio. With a large number of machines in full operation - with the specialized support of our well-known partners - visitors will get a comprehensive view of our productive and cost- and energy-efficient machinery and systems, and our intelligent process engineering," emphasized Dr. Karlheinz Bourdon, speaking on behalf of the management of KraussMaffei Technologies GmbH. KraussMaffei is also giving over 30 partner companies from the plastics sector the opportunity to present their specialized product portfolios - from material conditioning to moldmaking, peripherals and downstream equipment.
High-caliber exhibits and a great chance to see machines in action
Among the exhibits are injection molding machines from KraussMaffei´s AX, EX, CX and MX series, together with matched automation solutions. Production cells showcase solutions for all the main industry sectors and cover the tonnage range from 50 to 3200 tonnes. Visitors will see at first-hand the benefits of advanced machine-robot combinations. They can learn more about the latest trends in lightweight composites and the outlook for function and process integration. The latest addition to the EX series, the EX 200-1400 is teamed with an SR80 side-entry robot in a high-performance manufacturing cell, The robot removes the food packaging products from the mold and stacks them. The AX 350-1400 scores on efficiency and precision for technical parts. Currently the highest tonnage machine in KraussMaffei´s portfolio of all-electric injection molding machines, it´s on public display for the first time. An IMC 3200-24500 will be producing lightweight, but sturdy, pallets made of recycling material in a multiprocess system combining compounding and injection molding. Surfaces of all types are vitally important and as such a major topic at the Competence Forum. In this context, highly-automated, multiprocess solutions, such as the ones on show, where injection molded substrates are given high-quality PUR surfaces have convincing advantages for processors. Inline processes such as ColorForm, SkinForm and CoverForm produce parts which are painted, grained/soft-touch and scratch resistant respectively, in a single processing sequence.
KraussMaffei will also be demonstrating its mastery of conventional polyurethane processes, with the focus very much on lightweight fiber-reinforced composites. Some idea of the potential applications of LFI (Long Fiber Injection) technology for large-format parts can be gained from a system combining LFI and ColorForm producing fiber-composite parts with high-gloss paint surfaces in a single-sequence process. The company will also be showing an HP-RTM process (High Pressure Resin Transfer Molding) illustrating how successfully lightweight parts can be mass produced in highly automated processes. The system covers the whole process chain, from automated production of carbon-fiber preforms to post-mold processing of the HP-RTM parts. On display will be not only the polyurethane process and machinery, the mixing heads, pumps, PUR molds and mold carriers, but also the post-mold processing cells for punching and routing.
In the Extrusion division, the focus at the Competence Forum is on processing high-level materials for pipe extrusion. Visitors can watch the whole production process for PE-Xa pipe on a fully-operational extrusion line. KraussMaffei Berstorff is also premiering its new Internal Pipe Cooling (IPC) system, which significantly shortens the cooling zone, with a KME 75-36 B/R single-screw extruder and a RKW 33-IPC pipehead in a complete production line for PO pipe extrusion. The company is also highlighting space-saving and flexible coextrusion solutions for producing core and cover layers in U-PVC profile extrusion.
Compact talks by experts and a high-caliber panel discussion on lightweight composites
Rounding off the day´s program is a series of compact talks by KraussMaffei experts. Topical subjects will cover details of the machines on show and on improving efficiency in plastics processing, including multiprocess solutions such as ColorForm and SkinForm, and technologies for processing lightweight composites. Guided tours of the Munich plant are also on offer.
Finally, KraussMaffei is hosting an evening get-together where visitors can socialize, network or even continue intensive technical discussions. The evening will kick-off with a panel discussion, featuring high-profile experts, on "Lightweight - will plastic cars dominate the future?"
