KraussMaffei Berstorff to highlight new cost-effective twin-screw extruder at Chinaplas 2011

According to KraussMaffei Berstorff, the ZE 30 UTX is a cost-effective and versatile solution for laboratory applications, recipe development and production processes with output rates ranging from 80 - 250 kg/h. The design is based on time-tested company standards with innovative highlights, like high wear protection, short retooling time, and ease of operation.The new machine is available in a short version for various homogenising applications as well as in very long variants designed for special tasks with side feeders, degassing openings and injection nozzle. Thanks to the variety of different barrel housings and screw elements, each machine can be tailored to individual customer requirements.Since the launch of this series in 2001, inductive hardening of the ZE-UTX barrel bores has provided good wear protection, says the company. Additional features of the barrel housings are high-performance cartridge heaters and optimised cooling bores that are arranged in spirals around the housing opening and provide constant temperature control.Rapid set-up and start-up
Time benefits are ensured by the base frame concept with all ancillary units and the complete electrical equipment being integrated below the drive unit and the processing section. This ensures minimum space requirements and rapid set-up and start-up times.All important functions of the twin-screw extruder can be easily adjusted. Thanks to the intuitive logic structure of the central operating panel with touch screen, rapid access to all parameters of the extruder, metering devices and the downstream equipment is ensured.Rapid screw removal
The ZE 30 UTX twin-screw extruder can optionally be equipped with the UltraGlide (UG) travelling unit. In this version, the melt-filled extruder screws are continuously moved backwards out of the stationary processing section within a few seconds only. All phases of the compounding process can thus be quickly and exactly evaluated. This feature provides increased efficiency in research and development applications, says the company. In addition, time savings in screw cleaning and modification are achieved.The ZE 30 UTX is available with two different OD/ID ratios:OD/ID of 1.46 (A series) for high energy input, high shear and high torque.OD/ID of 1.74 (R series) for compounding high-volume starting material of low bulk density, for processes requiring low energy input as well a for compounding applications that involve long residence times.
