International car companies expected to boost Russian vehicle components industry

The workshop brought together key Russian manufacturers of automotive components to discuss the prospects of the mutually advantageous cooperation in the production and supply of auto components in Russia. Particular attention was paid to the analysis of the world, Russian and Indian automotive industries as drivers of the market of auto components. The results of 2011 show that the volume of production of vehicles in Russia grew by 40 % compared with 2010, reaching nearly 2 million units (1,998.7 thousand units). The bulk of production (1,747.5 thousand units, or 87.4 %) accounted for the production of passenger cars, whose production increased by 44.8 % compared with the 2010 production of vehicles totalling 204.4 thousand units (33.4 %). Thus in 2000, 93 % of all new cars in Russia were accounted for in the domestic brands, and only 7 % were imported. However, the arrival of foreign manufacturers in Russia has completely changed the picture. In 2010, they accounted for 30 % of new cars. According to experts at NAPAK, this segment has the highest potential for growth in the Russian automotive market. However, foreign brands have localised their business in Russia or are planning to do so. They must necessarily bring the level of localisation of production processes up to 60 % (Order No. 73 of the Ministry of Economic Development, Order No. 81 of the Ministry of Industry and Energy, Order No. 58n of the Ministry of Finance on April 15 "On the approval of defining the concept of industrial assembly" and establishes the application of this concept for import into the territory of Russian Federation for components for the production of motor vehicles under the headings 8701-8705 HS, of their components and assemblies.")[image_0] In this case, in fact, automakers are committed to working with the Russian component suppliers whose quality often does not meet international standards. At the same time, today, they have claimed small amounts of orders for automotive components that do not allow domestic companies to get the effect of economies of scale. According to the CEO of the Halopolymer Holding, Maxim Doroshkevich, "foreign automakers who came to Russia can in turn become a driver for the development of production of car components in Russia. Of particular interest to stimulate demand for fluoropolymers, which are unique and in demand in the automotive properties are their excellent anti-friction qualities, mechanical strength, dielectric properties, and resistance to aggressive chemical environments. At the same time the Halopolymer holding companies together with the manufacturers of automotive components today cannot simply carry out orders for the already-formed patterns, we are ready to implement a full range of R & D, developing new products to meet the needs of automakers.
