Exhibit to feature innovations and sustainable technologies that improve customers’ operating efficiencies and enhance their ability to compete
CLEVELAND – May 27, 2010 – During the upcoming K 2010 exhibition in Düsseldorf Germany (October 27 – November 3), PolyOne Corporation (NYSE: POL), a global leader in specialized polymer materials and services, will unveil a number of ground-breaking solutions that will help customers build economic value and enhance their global competitiveness.
The theme of the Company’s exhibit, “Make It Possible” showcases PolyOne’s customer-focused approach to developing innovative and responsible solutions that help its customers differentiate their products, win new business, reduce operating costs and meet sustainability goals. Innovations will include:
• OnColor Complete™ Liquid Color Solutions
A revolutionary, eco-friendly liquid colorant system that helps converters and OEMs reduce total cost of operations, eliminate waste, enhance employee safety, and improve environmental impact by combining patent-pending metering technology with state-of-the-art liquid colorants and refillable containers in a first-of-its-kind, closed-loop system.
• Smartbatch™ WPC for Natural Fiber Composites
A patent-pending colorant and additive system that enables customers to enter new markets by expanding the performance attributes and applicability of natural fiber composites beyond current levels. The technology can be applied to wood fiber and many natural post-consumer recycle fibers, such as rice hulls, cardboard, or other cellulosic materials.
• Edgetek™ AM Flame-retardant, Non-halogen Compounds
Delivering both economic value and sustainability, this new line of RoHS-compliant, high-temperature polyamide compounds offers a cost-effective and non-halogenated alternative to existing technologies while meeting UL, GWFI, and IEC tests for flame retardance. Configured for easy processing, these compounds are also ideal for molding thin-walled parts in multi-cavity tools for greater production efficiencies.
• OnFlex™ Non-halogen Flame-retardant, Non-phthalate Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPEs)
Processors and OEMs can meet sustainability goals and maximize consumer appeal with GLS OnFlex™ HFFR non-halogen TPEs for wire and cable. These compounds provide exceptional visual and tactile aesthetics in a non-plasticized, solution that allows manufacturers to respond to consumer demands for more eco-conscious products.
• Edgetek™ XT BPA-free High Performance Blends
As demand for sustainable solutions continues to rise, manufacturers striving to reach new markets choose Edgetek XT – BPA-free blends. By developing unique formulations with Eastman Tritan™ copolyester and select engineering thermoplastics, PolyOne has created a new class of eco-conscious compounds that provide chemical resistance, strength and durability for the most demanding consumer, healthcare and electronics applications.
• Compound, Additive and Colorant Solutions for Photovoltaics
To enable customers to meet or exceed performance and regulatory requirements for photovoltaic components such as back-sheet laminates and T Ü V wire, PolyOne has developed a complete family of colorant, additive and compound solutions. OnColor™ SOLAR Colorants and Smartbatch™ SOLAR Color and Additive concentrates provide high reflectance, light stability and UV resistance, as well as color differentiation and product identification. ECCOH™ SOLAR-T LSFOH (low smoke and fume, zero halogen) jacketing and insulation compounds provide an environmentally friendly flame retardant solution for wire and cable. OnCap™ SOLAR Dry Silane cross-linking wire and cable concentrates deliver fire safety and long term aging performance.
• Halogen-free ECCOH™ LSFOH Compounds for Nuclear Power
To position customers for the predicted rise in demand for nuclear power, PolyOne has developed a range of high performance ECCOH™ LSFOH compounds. These materials are formulated to meet the strict requirements of high performance cables for power, control, instrumentation and data applications in nuclear power plants.
• Trilliant™ HC Healthcare Compounds
To be introduced for the European market at K 2010, this specialized portfolio helps manufacturers serving the highly-regulated health care industry to achieve specific performance goals, including structural strength, antimicrobial controls, surface engineering, conductive/antistatic properties, thermal management, and flame retardance improvement. These compounds feature base materials that comply with regulatory requirements, including USP Class VI, ISO 10993, and FDA.
“Our key message at K 2010, “Make It Possible,” highlights PolyOne’s unwavering commitment to reducing our customers’ operating costs and sharpening their competitive edge,” said Bernard Baert, President Europe and International. “In fact, we’ve done this for countless customers by working closely with them to reach sustainability goals, solve manufacturing challenges, meet unique material needs and reach new markets. In addition, we will display a wide range of globally available new technologies for specialized applications and markets.”
