China's Haitian Plastics Machinery (Ningbo) has set an aggressive target of sales of as many as 600 injection molding machines this year in the US, including its Zhafir electric injection machines.
Speaking to PlasticsToday at the Koplas show held March 12 through 15 in Seoul, Korea, Bruce Zhou, sales manager at marketing arm Ningbo Haitian Huayuan Machinery said. "Reshoring will mean the U.S. will be our biggest overseas market this year." The company says it has already sold 150 machines in the first quarter of this year in the U.S. Previously, Turkey was the company's biggest overseas market but the European debt crisis has seen sales to Turkish processors fall as their export markets in the EU dry up.
Zhou doesn't think this is a temporary trend either. "The U.S. and Mexico will be our to markets for the next five years," he says. Zhou does expect strong competition from Japanese machine builders given the recent and dramatic depreciation of the Yen.
