German compounder Domo Chemicals has invested in a 10,000-tonnes/year compounding operation in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, as part of a global expansion of its engineering plastics business. A further 5000 tonnes/year of capacity is slated to be on stream by 2016, with capacity further boosted to 20,000 tonnes/yr by 2020.
The Jiaxing facility compounds polyamide (PA) 6 and 66 materials as well as high temperature Nylon (HTN) sold under the Domamid brand to serve the automotive, electrical and consumer goods industries, as well as the company's Econamid and Econamid Oro PA 6 and 66 materials based on high quality, pre-consumer (post-industrial) waste such as recycled yarns, textiles, fish nets and films. "The auto industry is starting to use these [latter eco-friendly] grades," says Ludovic Tonnerre, Managing Director of Domo Engineering Plastics Asia. These grades enable automakers to reduce costs according to the company. BMW is among the OEMs that Domo is working with.
