Total sales by the French plastics processing industry are only expected to increase by around 1% this year, predicts a sector report published by analysts of French bank Crédit Agricole.
Initial estimates for 2009 predict that output fell 11% while sales contracted 12%. Most of this decline was caused by an 18% drop in volumes of technical components, which are mainly supplied to the automotive industry. Crédit Agricole expects the industry to stabilise at the present level in 2010. Job cuts are expected to continue this year, partly due to the growing trend to relocate operations to other countries.
