FlexiSpiral™ Extrusion Tooling Reduces Material Usage - Patent Pending FeatherTouch™Adjustment, From Guill

FlexiSpiral improves concentricity or product roundness, greatly reducing material usage of other types of extrusion tooling.
The FlexiSpiral™ line of crossheads and inline dies from Guill, based in West Warwick, Rhode Island, offers improved extrusion performance for pipe, wire, cable, and hose and tube manufacturing. According to Guill, a key benefit of the new technology is that it improves concentricity or product roundness, greatly reducing material usage over other types of extrusion tooling.

The FlexiSpiral series offers a patent pending FeatherTouch adjustment in the die holder – a cartridge style ball assembly that doesn’t require the loosening of retaining screws to make adjustments. Additional unique benefits include Guill’s Seal Right Systems, a positive seal, which eliminates leakage between deflectors, along with easy self-alignment that reduces operator error during assembly. The FlexiSpiral tooling encompasses a 1-5-layer capability with multi-feed port locations to allow for customer variations in their specific extruder layout.

Bill Conley, Guill Sales Manager elaborates on FlexiSpiral benefits: “Today the escalating costs of compound material are important to control. Savings on just one extrusion system with a FlexiSpiral crosshead can be thousands of dollars over the course of a year’s production.” He summarized, “We discovered that if a company runs more than one extrusion system, the savings with additional FlexiSpiral systems can dramatically affect a company’s bottom line.”

Guill also manufactures tips, dies, and breaker plates using state-of-the-art computerized CNC machining and EDM equipment. As well, engineering services using the latest CAD systems are available for custom-designing extrusion tooling products such as crossheads, tips, clamps, flanges, forming rolls, spiderless inline dies, swing gates, breaker plates, and sizing dies.

Guill received ISO certification in 1995, the first major extrusion tooling company to meet international standards. Guill has long been recognized as one of the leading established designers and manufacturers of custom extrusion tooling for applications including wire & cable, fibre optics, medical tube, wood composites, automotive tube, plastic compounding, custom applications, rubber, profile, industrial pipe, hose and tube, blow moulding, and food and packaging.

Guill encourages and provides education and training for the extrusion industry by using models of plastic and aluminum heads for training, fully illustrated operating manuals for step-by-step assembly and disassembly, training videotapes, and classes on the care and cleaning of extrusion tooling.

Founded in Rhode Island in 1962 by A. Roger Guillemette, Guill was established as a job shop supplying tips, dies, crossheads and replacement parts to the wire, cable, plastic and rubber industries in New England. Later, Guill became a supplier for the entire United States and Canada, and today enjoys a worldwide market presence.
