Chen Hsong and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Plastic Technology (Nagoya, Japan) will deliver the first fruits of their previously announced technical collaboration in the form of the first MMX large two-platen injection machine, due to be shipped in the second half of this year.
Explaining the rationale hehind the alliance, Mitsubishi president Toshiya Sato said, "Chen Hsong has reliable and respected technology for small machines, but they were lacking in large two-platen technology, while our objective was to manufacture a large machine at reasonable cost, which is impossible in Japan." Added Sato, who was speaking to PlasticsToday at the recent Chinaplas show in Guangzhou, "A considerable investment would have been involved if we opted for our own plant in China, hence our decision to form the alliance."
