Western European prices for engineering thermoplastics remained virtually unchanged across the board in December 2009, according to the latest report of the newsletter Plastics Information Europe (PIE, Bad Homburg / Germany; www.pieweb.com). The supply situation remains good despite producers´ efforts to match output closely to demand, with PA 6.6 being the only real exception.
January's benzene contract, fixed at an additional EUR 189/t, is likely to be a dominant theme in the ongoing talks. ABS and PP also are likely to see price hikes due to the cost increases of the relevant feedstocks. PMMA producers, too, will seek an increase, whereas PBT and POM are looking fairly stable.
