Engel: Prof. Steinbichler recipient of Dr Richard Escales Prize 2010

Prof. Dr. Dipl.-Ing. Georg Steinbichler, Head of Research & Development at ENGEL Austria, was awarded the Dr Richard Escales Prize 2010 at the K-Fair in Düsseldorf for his outstanding contribution to the dialogue between research and industrial practice in plastics technology.

In his congratulatory speech Gerhard Gotzmann, Editor-in-Chief of the trade magazine Kunststoffe, praised, among other things, Steinbichler´s great commitment to training. Since 2009 Prof. Steinbichler has also been Director of the Institute for Polymer Injection Moulding Technology and Process Automation at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz.

"In the plastics industry we need highly qualified employees for the future. For us in Europe, and in particular in Austria, this is a question of survival. I am only too pleased to pass on much of my knowledge to the students," Prof. Steinbichler said after the presentation ceremony.

As a student Georg Steinbichler spent his vacations working at injection moulding companies, where he became acquainted with the entire spectrum of plastics technology from component development to production process optimisation. "I found that so fascinating that 30 years later I am still madly enthusiastic about the vast possibilities offered by injection moulding technology," Steinbichler continued. "Today I am still confronted by new challenges on a daily basis. There is an enormous call for action for the future."

The media prize is awarded every three years by Carl Hanser Publishers for outstanding achievements in the plastics industry. It is in memory of Dr Richard Escales, application-oriented chemist and founder of the magazine Kunststoffe.
