Polyamide producer Ems (Domat / Switzerland; www.ems-group.com) has reported operating profit (EBIT) of CHF 192m (EUR 131m) for 2009 in its performance polymers business, a year-on-year increase of 1.1%. Sales fell by 20% year-on-year to CHF 986m in the unit. Ems said the business unit successfully opened new application areas during the year, particularly in metal replacement in the automotive industry where new speciality products were introduced.
The Ems group saw overall operating profit increase to CHF 222m in 2009, compared with CHF 220m in 2008. Group sales in 2009 fell by 20% year-on-year to CHF 1.20 bn.
