The US market for domestic electrical appliances seems to be picking up. Germany Trade and Invest (gtai, Berlin / Germany; www.gtai.de) reports that the downtrend in sales that began in 2007 came to an end in the fourth quarter of 2009. US market volume advanced 4% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2009 according to gtai.
The upturn in demand is being driven by the fact that many US consumers put off purchases in the past three years. Manufacturers expect a further boost to come from the construction industry, government stimulus packages, scrappage premiums for old appliances and an improvement in consumer confidence despite higher jobless figures.
